TNA Discovery 把這兩份檔案著錄到了張一級：SP 84/157/96, f. 217, “Charles I to Boswell — in cipher”和SP 84/157/97, f. 219, “Nicholas to Boswell — in cipher”，日期都是1643年11月2日。網上沒有影象。Tomokiyo 的轉錄（部落格，2021年9月17日）在他不確定之處標了星號，是唯一的文字；Pitt 的輸入與之逐行相同。Sir William Boswell 是國王駐海牙的公使；Sir Edward Nicholas 是在牛津的國務大臣。
兩封信合計：455個數字碼組，171個不同取值，69個只出現一次。按用途，各區段區分得很清楚：

02 金鑰（Pitt 的字母表）

即 letter = row[(n − 20) mod 24] 字母行為a c e g i l n p r t w y b d f h k m o q s u x z——先是24字母字母表（無j，無v）的奇數位，然後是偶數位。每個字母的四個取值相隔24。它與 Tomokiyo 描述的 Scudamore（1636年）、Cave（1638年）和 Ormonde–Clanricarde（1643年）的常規斯圖亞特金鑰屬於同一型別，也與Maltravers–Ormonde金鑰同類。補充區塊116–159是五段按字母順序排列的序列（a d e · m n o r s t y，a d e · n o · t u，……），所以即使是沒見到的取值也受到約束；142 = s 是這裡根據 Nicholas 信的開頭“[His Majesty] comands”補上的。
03 驗證
由四個或更多字母表碼組構成的21段極大連續串（共106個字母），用一個以270萬字元的17至19世紀英語構建的四元語法模型打分。零假設是在同一週期結構上對24個字母的身份做置換。

自由週期掃描（對週期20–32的24字母行做模擬退火）並不具有決定性，這裡如實記錄：在106個字母上，退火會過擬合，週期27–32的得分反而高於真金鑰。支援週期24的論據是結構性的（奇偶位構造、相隔24的同音符、按字母順序的補充區塊），而與明寫部分吻合的解密結果（“A C · · knowledge”，“[835] D E R stand”，以及與 Simpson 的“Our Re-credentials”對應的“Y O U R E [C] R E D E N T I A L S”）就是證實。
04 四個符號
Tomokiyo 轉錄了四個圖形符號：△、中、□ 和 +。每個都在一個逐字母拼寫的詞內部出現一次，之後則單獨出現，而單獨出現時的組合方式，恰好與嵌入時所預示的一致。

所以 △ 中 873 □ 就是“good Cousin your Master”。抄寫員在逐字母拼出某個詞的地方把符號寫在旁邊（比較 Ormonde 信中的“for whom 270 thus hereafter”，那裡一個程式碼就是在行文中引入的），而轉錄把符號放到了詞的中間。這正是 Pitt 的筆記說還缺少的解釋；有了它，873 = you / your 在全部六處都說得通。
05 解密
方括號內為程式碼，花括號內為建議的轉錄修正，拼寫按密文所給。
查理一世致庫爾蘭公爵的使節，牛津，1643年11月2日（f. 217）：
Sir, Wee have received your ciuill {&} welcom letter of the {6th} of 8ber 1643. But never heard of any [514] letter of Our good Cousin the Duke of Curland’s, your Master, saue those inuiting us to send to the Funerals of the Late [303] Dukes his Father & Unkle [376] deceased of happy memory; to [which] we made an answer, but know not whether the same arriued [289] safe. The Difficulty of passage {we} feare {hath} preiudiced us. Our Cousin your Master’s affeccons & offers are soe reall & acceptable to us, specially in this coniuncture of our Affaires, as we acknowledge [our] [selves] there[by] highly obliged. We [pray] you therefore to present our princely thanks [177] on this behalf, to [assure] our said Cousin your Master, & to lett him understand that we shall most [wel]comly receiue his [assistance] with in [755] [188] [musket]s, match & [powder], in {what} [pro]por[tion] it shall please him to transmit the same to us, to the [port] of Weymouth, Dartmouth, Exeter, Falmouth or [228]. Not doubting but God will shortly enable Us to recompence soe free & soe [gener]ous a c[591] & es[126]. Nicholas 致 Boswell，1643年11月2日（f. 219）：
Sir, [His Majesty] comands [me] to signify his pleasure to you, that you use all possible diligence & industry by your meanes of the [170] & otherwise [secret]ly to hinder the coming ouer of the [181]s from the [726], for it is here apprehended that they [will] doe more hurt then good, for that they [are] understood here not to affect Monarchy. His Majesty’s two letters herewith sent with flying Seales are put into your character, because most safe & ready; you are to decifer & interpret them. Monsieur F I R X S S appeares not here. …
有取值的詞程式碼：800 to，588 of，873 you/your，291 Duke（來自 Simpson 刊印的致公爵信中的密文行
291 588 C U R L A N D ），516 letter，835 un-，749 selves，750 send，205 assure，223 by，629 pray，640 port，636 pro-，406 gener-，484 His Majesty，746 secret-。排序後，可讀的程式碼按字母順序排列（a 170–228 … d 291 … o 588–591 … s 726–755，t 800，u 835，y 873），所以這份名碼本大概是一張按字母順序排列的表；再有一封用這個金鑰寫的信就能檢驗這一點。
06 這兩封信是什麼
- 國王的信是寫給使節的。它答覆的是使節10月6日的來信，三次稱公爵為“your Master”（您的主上），送出“your re-credentials”（您的回任國書），並祝他平安回到主上身邊。Simpson 的Civil War Papers（Scottish History Society Miscellany I，1893年）刊印了國王同日致庫爾蘭公爵 James 的信，信中自稱“these Our Re-credentials”（此即朕之回任國書），還刊印了使節後來的備忘錄：海路不安全，“the ministers of their Majesties at the Hague”（兩位陛下駐海牙的大臣）勸他不要渡海，並收下了他的信件。Nicholas 告訴 Boswell，國王的兩封信已“put into your character”（用您的密碼寫成），Boswell 要“decifer & interpret them”（將其解密並譯出）。目錄中“Charles I to Boswell”（查理一世致 Boswell）的著錄即由此而來。
- “Monsieur F I R X S S appeares not here.”（F I R X S S 先生沒有在這裡露面。）Simpson 提到公爵的代理人是 Georg von Firks 少校。牛津方面在等一個人，而他沒有來——這正是使節本人對自己情況的陳述。
- 軍火。火槍、火繩和火藥運往韋茅斯、達特茅斯、埃克塞特、法爾茅斯或第五個港口：公爵的備忘錄說，他得知兩位陛下需要的是軍需品而不是人員；而 Nicholas 在1643年12月寫信給 Roe 說，“arms and powder are arrived at Dartmouth for his Majesty”（運給陛下的武器和火藥已抵達達特茅斯）（CSPD）。
- 葬禮指 Friedrich 公爵（卒於1642年）和他的兄弟 Wilhelm（卒於1640年）的葬禮，於1643年2月合辦：“the Late Dukes his Father & Unkle”（先公爵，即他的父親和叔父）。
- Nicholas 的指示是阻止“the coming ouer of the [181]s from the [726]”（[726]的[181]們渡海前來），這些人“understood here not to affect Monarchy”（據此間瞭解並不傾心君主制）。這與尼德蘭聯省議會於1643年底決定派出、1644年初在牛津受到接待的調停使團相符，而國王並不想要這個使團：181+S = Ambassadors（大使們），726 = States（聯省議會）。這兩個取值依據的是史實；僅憑密碼本身無法確定它們。

targets/boswell/key.py）；四元語法模型（lm4.py）；置換對照（permtest.py）；週期掃描（periodscan.py). - Simpson 1893 和 CSPD 1641–43 取自 Internet Archive 的 OCR；TNA 的編號取自 Discovery API。
已核查：Pitt 的輸入與部落格文字對照；字母表與20,000個置換字母行對照；每一處解密與記號對照；Simpson 刊印的信件和備忘錄；TNA 和 CSPD 的編號。未核查：手稿（網上沒有影象）；Pitt 引用的拉脫維亞檔案說明。使節為 Firks 這一身份認定、字母順序假說以及所提出的轉錄筆誤，都是推斷，在轉述之前需要核實。
