第一頁有十行編了號的符號，橫貫紙面書寫，沒有分詞。第二頁是收信地址To my Especiall & most Esteemed Cosin William Boswell Esq.、一枚封印，以及背書S[i]r Ra: Boswele. 24 Jan. 1627，即1627/8年。其下是同一筆跡寫的八個話題：Hopyan、Pettyt、監護法院、約克郡的土地、Sir Anthony Aucher、Morgan、一個未辨認出的，以及多塞特伯爵。同一頁上還有一張統計表，列出每個密碼符號以及它出現的行號。那是拆解這封信的人——Boswell 本人或某位文書——的演算紙。DECODE 自己的註釋已經懷疑這封信不是國王寫的；其作者和1628年的日期只是目錄中的佔位資訊。
02 金鑰
Woodard 把符號轉錄為字母a–x。與他的明文對齊後，全部442個符號的對應都是一致的：

正文中沒有對應符號的字母是j, q, x, z。寫信人把 P 和 F 弄混（ofinion），把 F 寫成 H（heares = feares），在maskinge中多了一個 S，在loldes中把 R 寫成了 L。
03 解讀
Upon Saterday, being our fifteenth of the presente, our[s] greate Duke returned from Plimmouth to Whitehall, contrary to the opinion of very many who conceaued he [w x] would not haue appeard heere before he had heard how the pulse of the Parlamente had gone. But being confident of the King’s fauour, [f]eares not the many enemies that he hath in the Lower House, especially hauing so greate a party in the Higher House by reason of the Bishops and the new Lords, which for the most [part] are(d) of his owne makinge; and to take away the ill opini[on] of such lordes …
正文在第10行末尾的一句話中間中斷。“new Lords”（新封的勳爵）是白金漢公爵促成冊封的貴族，主教們大多屬於他的一派，而那年冬天正在議論的議會，是由1628年1月30日的令狀召集的。
04 日期
在儒略曆中，1627年12月和1628年3月的15日是星期六；1628年1月15日是星期二。既然背書的收信日期是1627/8年1月24日，這個星期六就是1627年12月15日。白金漢公爵在1627年11月從失敗的雷島遠征經普利茅斯返回。他抵達白廳的日期，這裡沒有對照出版文獻核查。
05 仍不確定的部分
- p = s：在his owne中為 H；在our[s] greate Duke中為 C，那裡的符號可能是筆誤。
- 第二個w = “part”（C）：一個符號代表一整個詞，所以是一個小型名碼本或縮寫記號。
- “conceaued he”之後的w x：未解讀（I）。可能是一對名碼本符號，或者是虛碼。
- 話題列表的第7項以及背書旁邊的註記（Bradburn?）沒有辨認出來；統計表是 Boswell 本人的還是文書的，不得而知。
