Tomokiyo のページ参照（平文の宛名は313、335、339、441、442、暗号の宛名は358、360、389、396）は、ラテン語の Vita Johannis Barwick（ロンドン、1721年）のものである。その付録には Hyde が Barwick に宛てた英語の手紙が印刷され、p. 316 の対向には彼らの暗号の銅版の「Tabula Cryptographica」がある。ページのスキャンと照合した4つの上書きは次のとおりである（どの符号群の後にもピリオドがあるので、区切りは確かである）。

同じ系列の平文の上書きは Barwick の偽名である。「For Mr. Burden」「For Mr. Brookes」「For Mr. B.」「For Mr. Burges, these」。編者は「B. or any Name beginning with B. seems to have signified Barwick」と注記している。
02 Hyde と Barwick の鍵
1721年の図版は暗号の全体を示している。1–692の数字が11列に並ぶ。第1列はアルファベットで、1文字につき3つの数字（k、w、y は2つ、x、z はなし）。64–69は飛ばされている。第2–11列（70–131、132–193、194–254、255–317、318–379、380–440、441–503、504–566、567–628、629–692）は、それぞれ行に沿って A から Y まで、1文字につき3行ずつ下っていく。したがって音節と語は、1つのアルファベット順の表ではなく、列をまたいで頭文字ごとにまとめられている。いくつかの枠は意図的に空けてある。ここに関係する項目：the = 370、for = 210、from = 211、Mr. = 536、Master = 475、Barwick = 572、Hyde, Lord Chancellor = 589。these、Sir、London の項目はない。

「For / Mr / [名前] / these」という型も、ずらしによって救うことはできない。for は 210、Mr. は 536 なので、729 と 549 にはそれぞれ 519 と 13 のずれが必要になる。3通の手紙に繰り返し現れる 729 549 856 … 245 831 という並びは、Hyde の書記が書き写した決まりきったダミーの行である。
04 編者の記述
省略のない英語版 Life of Dr. John Barwick（1724年、Hilkiah Bedford 訳）は、Barwick 家の文書に基づき、暗号を同封した1659年6月12日の手紙に次の注を付けている（pp. 408–409）。
But to render the Cypher more difficult to be found out, as each Letter in the Alphabet is represented by three several Numbers, except K, W, and Y only by two, and X and Z by none: So several of the Numbers have no Letter, Syllable, or Word over against them, because they stand for nothing, and were only us'd to perplex such as should attempt to read what was written hereby, without the Help of the Cypher. So several of the Letters were superscribed with Numbers signifying nothing, some with two or three Lines of them, only to puzzle the Enemy, if they should fall into their Hands, which I the rather mention here, because some Persons, for want of examining those Superscriptions, as printed in the Appendix to the Latin Life (p. 358, 360, 389, 396, and 417.) with the Cypher also published there, have wondered what was the meaning of them: and it was for the same Reason, that several of the Chancellor's Letters, besides the Number denoting his Name, were subscribed with other Numbers, that either had nothing in the Cypher to answer them, or nothing to the Purpose. As to the Superscriptions, B. or any Name beginning with B. seems to have signified Barwick.

05 方法
- Tomokiyo のページ番号の典拠となった印刷物、ラテン語の Vita Barwick を特定した（Internet Archive
bim_eighteenth-century_vita-johannis-barwick-s_barwick-peter_1721）。上書きのある4ページと鍵の図版を見つけ、スキャン上のすべての数字を確認した。 - 図版の643項目を表に転写し（
targets/hyde/barwick_key.py）、4つの上書きをすべて復号した。 - 「For Mr … these」という型についてずらしの仮説を検証し、棄却した。
- 1724年の英語版（
lifeofjohnbarwic00barw）で暗号についての編者の記述を探し、上の注を見つけた。
